Prevention Professionals Conference is designed to offer Maine’s Prevention Community a broad range of learning opportunities. The conference will focus on providing information and resources for the field of tobacco and substance use prevention including building resilience and protective factors as a prevention strategy; innovative approaches to addressing health disparities; framing and messaging; comorbidity tobacco and marijuana use; and engagement of youth in prevention. Training
The New England School of Addiction and Prevention Studies, often called Summer School, is a 4-day intensive learning experience to further knowledge, skills, and experience in the field of substance use disorder services. Each year, participants from many disciplines come together to form a unique, diverse learning community. Cost varies according to course work taken.
Whether you are already providing consent education, or don’t know where to start, this training is for you!
As a result of this training, participants will:
- Be able to define consent.
- Understand Maine’s new consent education law.
- Identify age-appropriate messages and strategies for addressing consent.
- Share lesson plans and ideas for incorporating consent in their work with youth, in and out of the classroom
Lunch is included in the registration fee.
Join other healthcare professionals in this one-day training to learn more about nicotine addiction and how to integrate brief, evidence-based tobacco treatment interventions into current practice. The Basic Skills Training is open to all healthcare professionals, prevention professionals, and community members who are interested in learning more about the burden of tobacco and strategies for treatment. The daylong Tobacco Intervention: Basic Skills Training includes: Tobacco prevalence, products and burden; Motivational Interviewing; Brief Interventions; Tobacco Treatment Medications; and Quit Planning. The training is a requirement for those interested in the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice.
Texting and social media have grown to be perhaps the preferred method of communication, even for those who grew up with rotary phones. Its use in the context of behavioral health treatment therefore cannot be ignored. As with any communication between providers and their clients, however, these digital communications, including the slippery slope of sexting, should not be used without a clear understanding of the legal and ethical risks that accompany their use.
The Ethics in Prevention training provides Substance Use Prevention Specialists opportunities to engage in discussions of the six key principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics and explore a four-step decision-making model for assessing, addressing, and evaluating a range of ethical issues. This training provides opportunities to engage in discussions of the six key principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics and explore a four-step decision-making model for assessing, addressing, and evaluating a range of ethical issues. Participants completing the training will receive a certificate of attendance for seven hours of participation which can be submitted to the Maine Prevention Certification Board to meet the prevention ethics requirement for Prevention Specialist certification or re-certification. This training is endorsed by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC). Early bird registration $40.00 if paid by Wednesday, August 28th.

This one day conference is an educational opportunity for professionals working with young adults, ages 18-25, to understand alcohol use issues in Maine and learn practical skills to apply in local communities.
