Transforming Knowledge Into Action: Youth Mentoring Strategies

A three-part training series focused on building youth engagement skills and expanding your professional learning networks.
Join the Maine Youth Action Network’s team for this free training opportunity! Participate in a learning cohort with other emerging leaders in the youth engagement field. This series provides participants with train-the-trainer content on youth mentoring best practices, engagement & retention strategies, and youth facilitation strategies. You’ll leave with training materials, strengthened skills and deeper connections to other youth workers in your community.

Part 1- Youth Mentoring Strategies -Feb 28th @ Bangor Public Library – Bangor, ME 9:30-4:00

Part 2 -Youth Engagement and Retention April 9th @ TBA – 9:30-4:00

Part 3 – Facilitating for Youth Voice June 3rd @ TBA – 9:30-4:00

Over the course of these trainings, attendees will be working in peer cohorts to build and strengthen their networks and professional communities. Culture in Prevention: Professional Development Training

The Maine Youth Action Network’s vision is for communities throughout Maine to foster the healthy development of youth and create a thriving network of engaged leaders. We do this work through a series of local and statewide initiatives, including hosting and providing training to adults. Our 2018-2019 professional development training series is designed specifically for adults working with youth to grow the network of adult allies in Maine, strengthen the knowledge and skills of network members, and promote high quality work of local trainers. This series is offered free to any interested adult in Maine. Space is limited to 40 participants.

Transformative Storytelling: Professional Development Training

The Role of Life Experiences in Raising Healthy Children & Communities

This three-hour, inter-active session will provide participants with an introduction to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study including what ACEs can look like, sound like, and feel like for those impacted, as well as the potential impact of toxic stress upon healthy brain development. We will explore the prevalence of ACEs in Maine as well as examine Adverse Community Environments and their impact on children, families and communities. Additionally, through large and small group activities, we will learn strategies that help to build or promote resilience for healthy and thriving children, families and communities. Free training, must pre-register.  Light snacks will be provided.

 

Supporting Families, Supporting Youth: Working with LGBT Youth & Caregivers

Family connectedness and support is an important protective factor in the well-being of LGBT youth. However, many families and young people face challenges navigating their way to strong, affirming relationships.  This training is geared towards a broad range of providers representing primary care, mental health, behavioral health, educators, community, clergy, etc. who work with LGBT youth and their families.  Must pre-register. A light lunch will be provided.

Veteran Mentor of Maine Seminar

Our work involves Supporting and Mentoring Veterans who are involved with the Co-occurring Disorders Drug Court. You will have the opportunity to network with Court Officials, VA Representatives, Maine PreTrial Services, and other Mental Health workers on a weekly basis. You will provide mentoring, referrals for services, and occasional transportation.  The free seminar will be at the University of Southern Maine, Portland Campus, Room 1 of Payson Smith Hall, located on Falmouth Street. There will be free parking at the USM parking garage on Bedford Street. April 18th, 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.
