Maternal and Child Health and Substance Exposed Infant Conference

An educational opportunity to discuss strategies to optimize maternal and child health. Presenters will discuss healthy pregnancy (prenatal and postpartum), healthy infants and children, programs and supports for families and children affected by substance use, innovative approaches for working with families, and the many resources available to this population.

Youth Mental Health First Aid: Two-Day Intensive Workshop

The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in crisis.
Thank you for making time for this two day training. We are excited to work with you all. This opportunity is available for TWO people from your organization who work with young people in any capacity.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.

Maine Military & Community Network Statewide Conference

The keynote speaker, Dr. Carolyn Allard will talk about moral injury, guilt, and shame in the morning. In the afternoon, she will discuss Trauma Informed Guilt Reduction (TrGR training).  Afternoon breakouts will include a presentation from Francine Stark from the Maine Coalition of Domestic Violence, a briefing on Military 101 from the Maine National Guard, and training on post-traumatic effects on the relationship from the Lewiston Vet Center. There will be plenty of military and veteran informational and networking opportunities throughout the day, a panel presentation by Gold Star family members, and breakout sessions that include important and timely issues for military and people who work with them. Veteran Service Representatives will also be available. To round out the day, VetTalkX: Maine Women Veterans will feature five to six Veterans sharing their personal stories of inspiration and accomplishments since leaving the military.  Registration fee for Military Personnel and Veterans $10.00.

Supporting Families, Supporting Youth: Working with LGBT Young People and their Caregivers

Family connectedness and support is an important protective factor in the well-being of LGBT youth. However, many families and young people face challenges navigating their way to strong, affirming relationships. This training is geared towards a broad range of providers representing primary care, mental health, behavioral health, educators, community, clergy, etc. who work with LGBT youth and their families. A light lunch will be provided.
